Supporting adults through change

Arielle Gohier, registered psychologist at Inner Weather Psychology Thornbury

Understanding the Patterns Beneath the Surface

At Inner Weather Psychology, we believe our emotional world is constantly changing in response to life's experiences.

Just as the weather can shift between calm skies, heavy storms, bright sunshine and uncertain conditions, our thoughts, emotions and internal experiences are always moving and evolving. Sometimes we find ourselves caught in storms of anxiety, burnout or self-doubt. Others, we may feel hopeful, connected, and joyous, or even simply aware that something within us no longer feels aligned.

The aim of therapy is not to “fix” who you are, but to better understand the many parts of yourself and the patterns that shape your inner world. Rather than fighting against difficult emotions or experiences, we can learn how to navigate them differently. Through this we can recognise moments of rain without assuming the storm will last forever — creating space for both the heavier seasons and the moments of growth, fulfilment, and lightness.

How can therapy help?

The stories we tell ourselves shape how we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. Over time, these stories influence our choices, behaviours and beliefs about what is possible.

Therapy can help to:

  • Understand patterns that may be contributing to distress

  • Develop healthier ways of responding to difficult emotions

  • Develop practical coping strategies

  • Build resilience and emotional flexibility

  • Strengthen self-confidence and self-awareness

  • Improve relationships and communication

  • Navigate major life changes

Rather than fighting against difficult experiences, therapy can help you respond to them differently.

A storm does not need to define the forecast.
